EATS #5: CRISPY BUTTERFLY SHRIMP.
Another day, it is time to grub! Here is my recipe for my household famous fried shrimp. This recipe took quite a bit of development on my part so rest assured, it is fire! Not literally, of course.
- One pound medium sized shrimp.
- Quarter cup all purpose flour.
- 1 tablespoon Paprika
- 2 tablespoons of All purpose seasoning
- 1 large egg (optional)
- Vegetable oil.
- Half a cup of Sparkling/mineral water.
- Whole wheat bread crumbs.
Combine flour, paprika, 1 tablespoon all purpose seasoning, salt (and any other spice of your choosing) and whisk till even.
Stir in half a cup of sparkling water, slowly and whisking as you go to create a thin batter. Not runny. Not too thick. Set batter aside.
Wash and devein shrimp and butterfly it out using the back of your knife. Add 1 tablespoon all purpose seasoning and coat liberally.
I choose to season my breadcrumbs because why stop the party? Take it all the way through!
Next stop, an assembly line. Bathe shrimp with batter, roll over in breadcrumbs and set on a plate. Do this to individual shrimp and be sure to coat evenly.
Pop in the fridge for 20 minutes or until your oil is hot.
FUN PART: Fry dem thangs!
PRO TIP: Fry for 1 minute on each side. No more. Else you will be eating butterfly rubber bands.
